America the Beautiful by John Avant

It’s been very interesting and encouraging to watch all the social media reels of people visiting America from other countries for the World Cup. Most of them are astonished that our country is not as they have been told in the media. It is beautiful. Full of beautiful people, incredible food, and most important, unmatched freedom. 

Now everything is not beautiful.

We all know this.  Many of us spend quite a bit of time criticizing what is wrong with our Nation.

But on this July 4, on this 250th birthday of our Nation, let’s take a pause from all that and just be grateful. 

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights...” ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭

The United States of America is one of those good gifts.  People who don’t believe that have likely not been to many other countries.  

In the days ahead when we want to make this country better, here are some good words to remember:

“The life of the nation is secure only while the nation is honest, truthful, and virtuous.” Frederick Douglass

The church in this country should lead the way!  We are meant to be the salt and the light.

So happy birthday America! And happy Fourth of July to everyone.

Let’s be the revived people of God, a city set on a hill, that can light the way to even better days.
