Dependence Day by John Avant

These are scary times to be free.

As a nation we are quite unique. Free to make our own decisions.  And our own mistakes.

And it is a huge mistake to be independent!

Our founding fathers were not really seeking independence. They were seeking separation from a tyrant. But most of them also sought to build a nation totally DEPENDENT on God!

"Let us therefore, in the name of the Lord of Hosts, which is the God of armies, and the God of heaven, rely upon His providence." John Hancock 1776

If you celebrate independence this week, I feel sorry for you.

To be independent is to be alone. To be independent is to do life your way in your own power. To be independent is to miss the very glory of the Creator of the universe living in your own soul!

Celebrate freedom! Freedom to be dependent on the only One who can fill the empty places in your heart or in this nation.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭

You are never free while you are independent. You are only free when you have a new Master and a new mission—to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor, and to take the good news of Jesus to all of your neighbors who did not yet know Him.

That is freedom. And that is worth celebrating. You live in a nation that allows you the freedom to love God and love others openly.

Who will step into that freedom this week?

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…So when the Son sets you free you will be free indeed.”

‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭31‬-‭32‬, 36
