Islamic Socialism in America? by John Avant

NYC has elected a Muslim socialist as its mayor. 

I rarely speak about politics. It’s not because I don’t have political convictions but because I don’t trust the political process or politicians to save us!

As a follower of Jesus, I am not primarily of this world.   I do not serve a president. I serve the King of Kings!

I am far more confident in the power of King Jesus to change the world than I am the power of any president or politician.  

However…

There are times in each of our lives, when we simply cannot be silent. This is one of those times for me. 

I believe the combination of the two most demonic systems of modern history, Islam and socialism, requires believers to speak and act. 

How do I make a decision to speak about an issue like this while not speaking about other political issues?

In general if you talk about everything, you end up not making a difference about anything. 

To decide when an issue is important enough for me to speak into the political realm it helps me to personalize it. So I ask, “What do I want most for my grandchildren?” 

First, I want them to radically follow Jesus. 

Secondly, I want no one to harm or kill them. 

Those two things are in the correct order. Every day, on average, 14 people in the world are killed because they radically follow Jesus! I have to be willing to accept that risk for myself and those I love.

These are the two things I should also want for everyone! 

This is why the combination of Islam and socialism represents the reason I have to speak out politically at this point.

Socialism and Islam have been responsible for the murder of more people in the last hundred years than any other evils in the world.  

Surveys have shown that approximately one third of Americans today would rather live under socialism than capitalism. Yet, only one third of Americans know that socialism has killed over 100 million people! I personally believe that the combination of socialism and Islam is responsible for the murder of about 150 million people in the last 100 years. That’s a competitive number with all the deaths from all the wars fought worldwide since World War I!

So what should Jesus- Followers do about socialism and Islam in America?

Here are my thoughts:

• Support the Growing Revival Among Young Adults

Today’s generation of young adults have very little knowledge and no memory of the Cold War. The vast majority have never spent any time in a country under Sharia law.   They are blind to the fact that socialism has utterly failed everywhere it has been tried.  They either don’t know or don’t believe that the global goal of Islam is the same as the meaning of the word “Islam”: Submission. Submission of everyone in the world to the religion that will require the subjugation of women, the murder of everyone in the LGBTQ movement, and the elimination of all the freedoms we hold dear as Americans.   

This blindness is what caused New Yorkers to elect an Islamic socialist to lead them. Socialism took the world to the brink of nuclear war that would have left New York City under a mushroom cloud. Yet they elected a socialist. Islam flew planes into their buildings, And yet they elected a Muslim.

This appears to be insanity. Or more likely demonic deception.

At the same time we are in the midst of the most significant movement of God among the young generation that we have seen in decades. Even as I write this, I am in Florida, where our ministry has been working on six university campuses. Last week we were in the Pacific Northwest on two secular campuses. From one end of the country to the other students are flocking to Jesus! Their passion is contagious.

Throughout history God has used revival movements to make real change in the evil of culture!

If we will get behind this movement and not criticize and attack it because it looks different from how we have “done Church” in the past, God may just raise up a generation of spirit filled leaders who will act wisely and lead well in the political realm.

•  Work to oppose the election of Muslims and Socialists to office in this country. 

This is actually painful for me to write. It will likely offend some of my friends. I am often in the Muslim world, and I have many Muslims that I count as friends.

There is a concept in the religion of Islam called Taqiyya. The Quran and established interpreters of the Quran make it clear that lying for the welfare of Islam is acceptable and sometimes even obligatory. 

So for instance, the mayor of New York City can form alliances with the LGBTQ movement while knowing that his religion persecutes and kills the same people in other countries. He can even praise them and claim to want their welfare. And he can do it while lying with the cover of his religion. 

Muhammad’s companion Abu Darda said: “Let us smile to the face of some people while our hearts curse them.”

•  Finish the Great Commission

I believe this is the most important and positive thing we can do about the evil of Islam and socialism in our country. The fact is that Jesus told us that the world would be exactly as we find it right now:

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” ‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ 

And the one who has overcome the world told us in Matthew 24:14 that when there is a testimony in every people group, “the end will come.” 

The end!  

The end of Islam. The end of socialism. The end of every evil system on this planet. And of course, the beginning of a new heaven and a new earth ruled by King Jesus where every tear shed by every victim of evil will be wiped away forever!

There are now less than 3000 people groups who are completely without a testimony of the gospel. I can do something about that. So can you. Support Project 3000.

I’m recruiting young missionaries everywhere I go to finish this task. I believe it is doable in the next ten years.

In summary, I will vote. I will pray. I will educate the next generation about the evil of socialism and Islam every opportunity I get.

Most importantly, I will share Jesus with my neighbors and the nations!  When Jesus comes again, we will have no worries about Islam or socialism. It will be the ultimate victory far greater than any political victory we can accomplish on this earth.

I cannot be silent in these days.

But I will also keep my priorities in order. 

I will talk about politics sometimes. 

I will talk about Jesus all the time!

Because Jesus is coming! And Jesus wins!
