Mother's Day can be a hard day for...

  • For the woman whose baby did not have an opportunity to take his/her first breath before entering heaven.

  • For the woman who struggles with infertility.

  • For the woman  who struggles from carrying the guilt of an abortion.

  • For the woman whose child took his/her own life.

  • For the woman whose child is experiencing a terminal illness.

  • For the woman whose child was killed violently.

  • For the woman who carries the guilt of spewing anger out on her family.

  • For the woman who lives with depression and struggles with mothering.

  • For the woman who has a son who now has decided he is a daughter and vice versa.

  • For the woman who believes she failed as a mom because her son/daughter is making choices which negatively impact their lives and the lives of others.

  • For the woman who feels the shame of abusing her child.

  • For the woman who believes she failed at marriage and believes she failed at motherhood as well.

  • For the woman who daily struggles to provide financially for her child

  • For the woman who is estranged from her son or daughter.

  • For the woman who is estranged from her own mom.

  • For the woman who no longer has a mom.

And the list can go on and on.

Being a mother is not an easy task now nor was it for the women in the New Testament.

  • Was Mary’s mother ashamed when she discovered Mary’s pregnancy?  Did she believe Mary’s story?

  • Did Peter’s mother feel great disappointment when he denied Christ?

  • Did Judas’ mother grieve deeply over her son’s betrayal of Jesus and ultimate suicide?

  • Did Elizabeth wail when John the Baptist was beheaded?

  • Did Timothy's mom, Eunice, stay up at night praying for Timothy to have wisdom as he faced difficulties in the early church?

  • Did John’s mom mourn her son’s exile to the island of Patmos?

  • Was Paul’s mother angry when he abandoned Judaism and became a follower of Christ?

I hope your Mother’s Day will be filled with joy as you are celebrated by your family and friends.

If Mother's Day is difficult for you remember:

  1. Your worth and value as a woman is not in what you produce or accomplish, it is in your relationship to Christ.  You are a daughter of the King.

  2. Your joy should never be derived from someone else’s actions, decisions, or lack thereof. Your joy comes from an intimate relationship with Christ.

  3. Your child’s accomplishments are not a result of your great efforts as a mom inasmuch as your child’s failures are not a result of your inadequacies or your own failures as a mom.

As you navigate Mother’s Day, rest in His unconditional love and experience His joy simply knowing You are His and He loves you dearly.

If this day is full of joy for you, please open your eyes to the women around you who may need love and encouragement on this day.

I pray you will know "you are no longer a slave, but a son/daughter, and if a son/daughter, then an heir through God." Galatians 4:7

I pray "that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith; and I pray that you will be rooted and establish in love and that you may have the power together will all the saints to know what is the breadth and length and height and depth of his love. I pray you will know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge so that you will be filled with all the fullness of God."

Ephesians 3:16-`19
